Research by the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER) on the carbon footprint of spirits found that, on average, the majority of the carbon footprint comes from glass packaging. Even though there are significant achievements in energy and water consumption, consumer waste continues to be a big challenge for the whisky industry. The trend for the spirits industry in terms of packaging is moving toward replacing the glass with paper bottles, however, switching from glass to one-single use material packaging is not a solution to reduce waste. To make a difference that impacts consumer behaviour we need to disrupt the supply chain. To do so we implemented circular economy strategies to offer customers a swap bottle experience that promotes the reuse of NCNEAN whiskey bottles by partnering with local retailers.
